Suzi Quixley has worked
in the Community Services Industry for over 30 years. All Suzi's work is
driven by a belief that Australian society (and other western-based social
structures) fail to address the human rights of the majority of their citizens
... and that working toward social change is a fundamental ethical
responsibility for all community services workers. Her work has
included:

2007-present |
|
Living in Adelaide, and
undertaking full time community services consultancy. Since August 2007,
Suzi has focused on 3 main areas. She provides editing/research/writing for
non-government organisations in Australia and internationally,
training/organisational development with
community organisations in Adelaide and professional supervision with a variety of community services industry workers. Suzi
prioritises work related to disenfranchised communities including women,
children, young people, refugees and HIV-affected groups. She commonly
addresses issues such as human rights, homelessness, discrimination, family
violence, ethics and imprisonment. |

2004-2007 |
|
Living in Adelaide, Suzi undertook some research and writing
alongside her mid-life
crisis. During this period she worked as a Textile Artist and
Florist and ran a shop under her other business name - suziQdesign. |

|
1999-2003
|
|
Living in Singapore, and working as a Lecturer (Community
Services Management) in the School of Business Management at Nanyang
Polytechnic. During this time, Suzi travelled widely in Asia
(and also went to Egypt). Professionally, she taught both school leavers
and mature age industry workers in several diplomas. She also undertook
consultancy work for various branches of the Singapore government. |

1989-1999
|
|
Living in Adelaide, and working nationally as a
Consultant/Trainer in the Community Services and Health Industries. Almost 60% of Suzi's work was outside Adelaide, with
a significant proportion of this in rural/remote areas. Key roles included conducting
training/facilitation, working with individual clients, public
speaking/chairing/moderating, providing consultation/ research, undertaking
organisational development/review, working as a relief worker in youth and
other community services agencies and writing for publication. |

1986-1989 |
|
Living in Perth, and working as a Lecturer (Community &
Behavioural Studies) at Edith Cowan University. Here, Suzi mainly
taught in the Youth Work and Women's Studies programs. |

|
1977-1986 |
|
Living in Adelaide, and working as a Youth Worker/Manager in
various State Government Departments, including 3 years as Training and
Development Officer with the Department of Agriculture and 5 years
working with unemployed young people. |
|
|
pre-1977 |
|
Living in Melbourne and Adelaide, and working in a variety of
part time jobs. These included working as a Social Trainer with
people with intellectual disability (Minda Inc), a secretary/receptionist
(Business Films Pty Ltd & Dial a Secretary) and a sales assistant (Coles).
Suzi also undertook significant voluntary work in the welfare area with
groups such as fellow students, people with disability and the aged, and was
actively involved in student politics. |
